Information for BreedersIf you plan to breed you should study the Registration Policy for your breed before you buy a kitten. (If cats are not bred according to the Registration Policy for their breed they cannot be registered as a particular breed and cannot be shown) Ensure that it is registered on the Active Register; if it is registered on the Non-Active Register you will not be able to register its kittens. The current fees for registrations, transfers and certified pedigrees are listed on the GCCF Price List When a litter is registered, the application to register must be accompanied by a copy of the certificate of mating unless the person registering the kitten(s) is also the registered owner of the sire. The owner of the stud cat must provide a Certificate of Mating to the owner of the queen upon collection of the queen. Stud cats must have a Certificate of Entirety (.pdf format), signed by a Veterinary Surgeon, lodged with the GCCF, before any progeny will be registered. If you are planning to breed you may wish to register a prefix. This will then be used as the first part of the name of any cats you breed and register. You will need to be a member of an Affiliated club before you can apply for a prefix; some clubs require you to be a member for a year before they will countersign a prefix application form so, if this is your reason for joining a particular club, do check first.
There is no need to own a prefix in order to register kittens. Many breeders do not register a prefix when they first start breeding; if the breeder has no prefix, an administrative prefix forms part of the cat's name instead. You may find the following information useful:
